Peel and Stick Board and Batten: Paintable Kits & Layouts

Peel and stick board and batten gives you the vertical batten look without nails, a saw or a stud finder. The battens come with adhesive tape on the back, so the main job is spacing them evenly.

Renter-friendly, if you prep the wall

Adhesive battens hold on smooth, painted drywall. Clean the wall with isopropyl alcohol first and press each batten for 30 seconds. For removal later, warm each batten with a hair dryer and peel slowly. On textured or freshly painted walls add a dot of removable mounting adhesive.

Batten height choices

A ledge at 5 ft on an 8 ft ceiling is the classic farmhouse proportion. A ledge at 42 inches makes a half wall, and floor-to-ceiling battens suit a feature wall behind a bed.

Batten count by wall width (16 in target spacing)

Wall Battens Gap
8 ft 6 15.5 in
10 ft 7 16.5 in
12 ft 8 17 in
14 ft 10 15.5 in
16 ft 11 16 in

Example: 10 ft wall

On a 10 ft wall use 7 vertical battens (3" wide) spaced 1' 4.5" (42 cm) apart, with the top rail at 5' (152 cm). Total about 46 linear ft with waste.

Common questions

Does peel and stick board and batten look real?

Once caulked and painted the same color as the wall, yes. The 8 to 10 mm thickness casts the same shadow lines as nailed MDF battens.

Can I paint peel and stick battens?

Yes. Our battens arrive primed; wait 24 hours after sticking, caulk the edges, then paint with a satin or eggshell finish.

Will it damage the wall when removed?

Usually only a light touch-up is needed. Warm the adhesive and pull slowly at a low angle; avoid fresh paint under two weeks old.
