A 12 × 14 ft room has a 52 ft perimeter. After subtracting a 3 ft door, the net is 49 ft. With 10% waste, plan for about 54 linear ft; the piece count depends on the stock length selected.
Measure each wall when the room has alcoves, fireplaces or built-ins. Plan scarf joints over studs where possible, and keep your longest boards for uninterrupted walls. The estimate is a planning aid, not a substitute for an on-site cut list.
Frequently asked questions
Should baseboard run behind cabinets?
Usually no for fixed base cabinets, but confirm the cabinet and appliance plan before subtracting sections.
How much baseboard waste should I add?
Ten percent is common for simple rectangular rooms. Add more for many corners, short returns or rooms that are out of square.
Does this calculate door casing?
No. Subtracted door openings reduce baseboard only; casing and plinth blocks should be estimated separately.
